it is absolutely impossible to differentiate the nominal ssp from the Carribean, vitellina from Central America, Venezuela and Colombia, and flavescens from Brasil, the more so as the width of the male FW black bars is variable.
however, all the specimens we found in a small area from Guayquichuma to Zambi, between 1800 and 2600 meters, are almost identical and look clearly like ssp ella.
this is why we kept two fact sheets : "ella" and "ssp ?".
