Male

Female

wingspan :  male 38/40, female 48 mm

Altinote leontine, Zambi, Saraguro, Loja, Jimbura.

the fact remains that our specimens from Zambi, Chilla and Jimbura have a yellow FW band, when this FW band on those from Saraguro is definitely orange, which seems to confirm what we noticed farther North, yellow Western slopes, orange Eastern slopes.
we only have one specimen from San Andres.

we keep the "leontine" name for two reasons :
1 - the scarcity, the behaviour and the limited hatchings of this butterfly have nothing to do with the huge numbers, the behaviour (mud puddling) and the massive hatchings of Altinote negra.
2 - Gerardo Lamas didn't tell the reasons why he synonimized leontine and negra ?
