Pronophila isobelae is a butterfly that became known recently (described in 1998) and by few specimens (under ten).

excluding the Western ssp, Pr. isobelae benevola, until recently all specimens had been collected near Loja, the majority at 2500/2700 meters, between Loja and Catamayo, and, at least one, at Cajanuma.

recently we found several Pronophila isobelae at 2600 m at Cerro Toledo (50 km farther South), they're all identical and are clearly different from those of the Loja area (see individual variation page) ; so we would have had a Northern and a Southern ssp or form, excellent, but...

at Cajanuma David Geale photographed two specimens of Pronophila isobelae, and they belong to the Southern form, so, the two forms fly at Cajanuma.

as of today it is impossible to draw conclusions as we only have, at Cajanuma, two "Southern" and one "Nortern" specimens.
